Haghardzin Monastery

Foundation: 10-13th centuries 

Location: Dilijan town, Tavush Province

Distance from Yerevan:  110km / 1 hour 45 minutes

Haghartsin Monastery used to be one of the largest medieval religious centers of Armenia. It was built between the 10-13th centuries mostly under the patronage of the Bagratuni Dynasty.  

The complex:

  • Saint Astvatsatsin Church, rebuilt in 1281, is the largest and well-preserved monument of the complex, however, the gavit is now in ruins,
  • Saint Grigor Church was built in the 10-11th centuries and the gavit by the end of 12th century.
  • Saint Stepanos Church (1244)
  • Refectory is built by the architect Minas in 1248
  • Bagratuni's sepulcher.
