Distance from Yerevan: 70 km/2.5-3 hours

Sanahin (UNESCO's World Heritage Site) is supposed to be founded in the 4^th century, though the exact date for the founding is unknown.

The Complex:

• St. Astvatsatsin (Holy Mother of God) church, built in 928 - 944 by the Bagratunis. The St. Astvastatsin gavit was constructed in 1211 by the order of Prince Vacheh Vachutian;
• St. Amenaprkitch (Holy Redeemer or All Savior) Katoghike Church, built by the order of Queen Khosrovanush, wife to King Ashot III (the Merciful) Bagratuni; the construction was completed in 966. St. Amenaprkitch or the inner gavit (1181) was built by the architect Zhamhair;
• The Seminary or “Magistros academy” (10 -11^th cc);
• Bell Tower (13^th c.);
• The book depository and gallery (the buildings present the high level of civil architecture at the time).
• Grigor Chapel (10th c.);
• St. Hakop Church (10th c.),  
• St. Harutiun Church (13th c.)
• Zakarian Sepulcher, Patrimonial Sepulchres of Sanahin, built for members of the ruling families.
• Khachkar Masterpieces at Sanahin include the Grigor Tudevordi khachkar and the Sarkis khachkar.
