Haghpat Monastery Complex

Location: Haghpat town, Lori Province

Distance from Yerevan:  190km / 3 hours

Haghpat Monastery complex is located in Lori province and overlooks Debed River canyon. The oldest building of the Complex, St. N'shan church was founded in 976 during the reign of King Ashot the Merciful by Queen Khosrovanuish. Haghpat Monastery was a large center of science & education of medieval Armenia. In the 18th century, the famous Armenian poet, musician and troubadour Sayat Nova used to live in the Complex.

The monastery is listed as a UNESCO's World Heritage Site.
