Aghjkaberd is located in Tavush Province, 16km south-west from Ijevan, on the top of mountains covered with in dense forest. Rocks surrounding the fortress and the high walls has served as an inaccessible guard. Reservoirs, remains of living areas and a small church can be found inside the Fortress. All the walls of the fortress are made of bluish basalt. Being well preserved, the fortress has important historical and archaeological value.
