Erebouni Fortress (782 B.C.)

Location: Yerevan

Establishment: 782 B.C.

History of Yerevan starts from Erebouni Fortress, located in Erebouni administrative district, on Arin-Berd hill. It was founded in 782 BC by Urartian king Argishti I. The inscription on the entrance of the Fortress says: “By the will of Khald (the presiding deity of Urartu Kingdom) Argishti, son of Menua, built this majestic palace.” It was one of the most important political, economic and cultural centers of Urartian kingdom. Later on the foot of the hill the eponymous city was situated.

Erebouni Museum is located at the foot of the Arin-Berd hill.
